WELCOME TO NUNNYKIRK CENTRE FOR DYSLEXIA
Nunnykirk School is a Department for Education approved, non-maintained special school for pupils with dyslexia.
Since 1977 we have provided for the educational and social needs of boys and girls of average or above average intelligence who experience specific learning difficulties primarily dyslexia.
We admit pupils between the ages of 9 and 18 years on a day-only or a weekly boarding basis (Monday-Thursday). We now have both boys and girls boarding - in separate dormitories, naturally! Pupils come from both the local area and further afield including Scotland, Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Midlands - the school being the only one of its kind between Glasgow and Birmingham. Day students are collected each day and are returned to Morpeth station. This journey takes about 30 minutes.
We offer a wide ranging curriculum which caters specifically for children with dyslexia using teaching methods which have proved very successful particularly in key subjects such as Literacy and Maths.
The school has also grown an excellent reputation for the quality of its creative arts achievements, in particular photography, in which a number of former pupils have pursued as successful careers.
